Golden State Chimney Sweep Guild Certification Program
The Golden State Chimney Sweep Guild Certification program certifies qualified Members who have demonstrated their
commitment to the industry by passing a certification test with the score of 80% or more and by supporting the Guild with
their continuing membership.
Qualifications: Member in good standing with the Golden State Chimney Sweep Guild
for the duration of two current consecutive years before Member is eligible to take the exam.
Member must remain a member in good standing for the duration of his/her certification period. If the member
fails to renew his/her membership their certification will be revoked. If the member is found not to be in
good standing by the Ethics Committee and the Board of Directors, the certification will be revoked and the membership of
the member will be terminated.
Only Golden
State Chimney Sweep Guild Members can qualify for the certification program. Employees must be Members of the Guild themselves.
The certification test will be 50 questions dealing with the chimney
sweeping industry. The testing material will be taken directly
out of the NFPA 211, The Uniform Building Code and the Uniform
Mechanical Code.
The test will be given at the annual Golden
State Chimney Sweep Guild Convention. Also at each of the workshops held each year. One in Southern California and
one in Northern California.
The test will be the day
before the annual convention and the bi-annual workshops. The exact times will be determined by the proctor in charge. A
Board of Director will be a proctor. The executive Board can appoint a non-Board of Director to administer the test if necessary.
A test score of 80% will be required to pass and the results
will be posted or members notified by the proctor as soon as possible. Members scoring less then 80% can be re-tested
at the next scheduled time.
The Certification will be good
for three years. The Certification test will be reviewed and amended by the Certification Committee to meet the
changing industry standards . Any complaints or problems
with the Certification program will be sent directly to the Certification Committee Chairperson and forwarded
to the Board of Directors for review.
